Psalm 46 for Today

Filed under: Linda Ritchie — Linda @ 8:58 am

Two devastating earthquakes in as many months, Lord!

Be still and know that I AM GOD

Lord, we’re inundated with allegations of corrupt leaders and lying politicians

Be still and know that I AM GOD

Money is already tight, Lord, and road tolls and electricity are going up

Be still and know that I AM GOD

Oh Lord, I pray daily for my son but he continues to harden his heart against You

Be still and know that I AM GOD

I’m 54 years old and I’ve just been retrenched. How am I ever going to find another job?

Be still and know that I AM GOD

Take heart. The psalmist penned the words of Psalm 46:10 in the midst of natural disasters and political wars, all of which sounds remarkably similar to the times in which we are living.

And the truths expressed in this psalm are just as true for us today as they were for the psalmist all those years ago.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble (verse1).

So be still and know that He is God;

God will be exalted among the nations,

He will be exalted in the earth.

The Lord Almighty is with us;

The God of Jacob is our fortress (verse 10 and 11).

Take heart.

God is still in control.

  1. Hello Linda

    I love this Psalm, it is so reassuring that our Father in heaven created us,protects us, feeds us, brings us joy and peace, takes care of our needs. Its very difficult to think of all these things when you sitting without job, when you dying, when you cant buy food,this is when we go wilfully to our knees and affirm,I am weak but You are srong,I am lonely but You complete me, I am hurt by life circumstances, but You fill me with LOVE

  2. Hi Linda

    Yes we know we must be still and trust the Lord
    but sometimes it’s so difficult,
    The lord teaches us in this Psalm to be still
    When everything around me is falling apart
    I will be still and trust in the Lord

    Thanks for reminding us again just to be still

    regards
    cynthia

  4. It is too difficult to be still and keep no trusting while you have just being born again and loose the people you love and find out that the person you respected and trusted since you were growing up is not the person you thought they are. i have lost hope i no longer pray or read. how do you keep strong it’s like something inside me is dead.

  6. Mind if I share a poetic verse on this Psalm? just the first few lines, but I wrote this last year.

    Forty Six’ish (NLT)
    God is our refuge and might,
    always ready to help in the dark times of our night.
    I will not fear, even if earthquakes come
    or if the mountains crumble at the beat of the ocean’s drum.

    Let the oceans foam, let the oceans roar!
    Let the mountains tremble as the waters soar!

    For the Lord God Almighty of Israel is our fortress and our rock;
    He is among us; our firm foundation and the nations’ stumbling block.

    ….

    God is good, and He is working all things for His plans and His glory. We are safe in His arms, and these things either point us to our need for our saviour, or becomes a stumbling block when we rebel or get bitter about it!
